Greetings and Salutations to all!

The new year got off to a crawl with the polar vortex pouring down out of Canada. When people talk about building walls, can we consider a big thermal wall to block all of that cold from coming down to the States? It broke a record here in Chicagoland one night, -27°F (-32.8°C). Now, to those of you that live up north that may be calling me a sissy, that’s okay. -27°F is when I cry “Uncle!”

CONVENTION NEWS

The ACA Convention that is being hosted by NECA is coming on strong. With a great list of speakers and events, you won’t want to miss it. But, no matter what, the chance to spend a few days with fellow cichlid hobbyists is always worthwhile. Make sure to make your reservations for this great event. Remember, nothing is better than FISH, FRIENDS and FUN.

TANGANYIKA CICHLIDS #4!

Tanganyika Cichlids #4

When I bought Ad Konings’ previous update of his classic Tanganyika Cichlids in their Natural Habitat, I was enthralled with the great information presented but disappointed in the matte finish. Well, hold on to your hats because a new, 4th edition is about to come out. With GLOSSY PHOTOS, no less. Ad Konings has provided me with the following:

The book is not yet available but will have glossy photos. Anything that there is to know about it you can find here: cichlidpress.com/books/details/tc4.html.

Be ready to get your copy as soon as it comes out. You cannot get this type of information for free on the internet.

While you have the purse strings untied, you may as well get the greatest book on Malawi cichlids ever printed, Malawi Cichlids in their Natural Habitat, too. There are so many questions that people ask on-line that could be correctly answered by getting this book. Note that I said “correctly answered“. Especially IDs. The great thing about these books is that you can reference them repeatedly, at any time of the day or night and the information is timeless. And, yes, I own every edition of both of these books. Get them at your local bookseller or from cichlidpress.com.

~ VALE ~

Some sad news has come across my desk. Many of you probably have heard of the passing of Jack Wattley. His accomplishments with discus are legendary. The hobby will sorely miss him.

In that same light, Ron Georgone, Mr ACA Showman has recently passed away. Every time I would attend a convention, it seemed like Ron would wear a rut in the floor walking up to the stage for the numerous show awards that he received. What a fabulous collection of outstanding fish. Hopefully, there are fish shows in Heaven. Please see the obituary below.

B. I. T. C. H. – Babes In The Cichlid Hobby
– “Excellence Through Experience”

Greetings from the Babes In The Cichlid Hobby!

We are seeking donations for the famous Babes In The Cichlid Hobby Silent Auction. It will be held this year at the ACA Annual Convention in Cromwell, CT, July18-22, 2019.
We cannot thank you enough for your loyal support over the years! We know that you are passionate about Cichlid Research and Cichlid Conservation, so let’s make this our best year ever! We can’t do it alone – we will need your help!
If you are an artist, draw us a picture! If you are a photographer, donate some pictures. If you are a collector of aquarium artifacts, please donate a collectible that will help raise some money! If you have been published, bring an extra copy and sign it for our auction. Tired of that fish jewelry, donate it! Maybe you have old publications or books of aquarium literature that you could donate?

It is all for a worthy cause! All of the money (100%) will go to the Guy D. Jordan Endowment Fund, Paul V. Loiselle Conservation Fund and Stuart M. Grant Conservation Fund; you pick where you want your donation to go.

Please bring your donations to the convention. If you can’t make it, and you are willing to donate, please send your donations to us at the hotel. Cut-and-paste the address below. And remember if you don’t have anything to donate, you can always bid high on something that catches your eye or make a cash/check contribution. All donations are tax deductible.

About the Babes In The Cichlid Hobby: We are women cichlid keepers who want to make a difference in the hobby. Cichlid habitats are plagued by pollution, over-fishing, deforestation, hydro-electric power projects, mineral exploitation, global warming, floods, and troubled governments. With 25 years of fundraising we have provided financial aid for cichlid research and cichlid conservation all over the world. We strive to widen awareness and encourage responsible cichlid keeping.

That’s all for now.
