Volume 4, #4, April 2018
Guest Editor: Jan Benes
I can not believe the convention is just a few short weeks away. It’s time for all cichlid fans to make your hotel reservations, get in your registrations, and fatten up those prize fish for the show.
I know that the Greater Houston Aquarium Society and the Houston Cichlid Club are looking forward to playing host to hundreds of fellow cichlid keepers from around the globe. They have a full weekend of events planned, with something for everyone: a show filled with some of the best cichlids around, lots of great speakers, manufacturers’ displays, vendors of both fish and dry goods, a silent auction, tours, awards banquet, a nightly hospitality suite, and of course, a huge auction on Sunday. Not to mention fireworks on the Fourth of July.
There’s a lot to do in the Houston area, so make it a fun family vacation. If you are a space geek or a child of the sixties, the Johnson Space Center is an awesome not-to-be missed tour. Galveston Island is a short drive from the hotel with dining, shopping, and beaches. There is a nice aquarium downtown and one of the top ten zoos in the country. Or if you are looking for an adult beverage, Houston is home to many microbreweries.
The convention is always a great opportunity to see the newest cichlids from both the New World and Old World and you might have the chance to purchase that one cichlid you’ve always dreamed of.
This will be the 20th ACA convention for Phil and me. We have made so many friends through the convention. So I invite you to come to Houston! Visit with old friends and make new friends! Talk cichlids ‘till the sun comes up. I know you’ll have a great time.
