Greetings and long-awaited salutations! Life gets busy.

This will be my 11th year as the Editor/Author of the ACA News. It has been a labor of love for most of the time, a source of irritation for a brief period, but mostly a lot of fun for me. I did just take a short hiatus but am now back for another adventure in the world of cichlids.

Convention 2025 – San Antonio, TX

convention.cichlid.org

The Convention is the main thing going on with the ACA. The tours/events are filling up fast. Rooms are flying off the shelf, too. If you are planning to go, please, make your arrangements sooner than later so you are not disappointed.

BOT

One reason I ran for the BOT is so I could be privy to what is going on and convey those things to you, our members. Unfortunately, not too much else has been occurring as the Convention is taking up the majority of the conversation. Also, future conventions are being planned ahead of time. The ACA is being pro-active and on top of things.

I want to take this time to let you all know that Dr Tim Hovanec, long-time ACA Treasurer and Fellow of the ACA has retired from his position. Dr Tim’s Aquatics is taking up most of his time now and he is focusing on his company’s success. Check out the website drtimsaqautics.com to see all of the wonderful products that he offers. Don’t forget to view all of his YouTube videos, too. Thank you, Tim, for your years of hard work and service to the ACA.

I will especially miss Tim as he and I were like-minded in many ways and we tried to get things done in the ACA as best we could. It was Tim who likened me to a "bull in a China Shop" when I was Chair. I like to get things done in a no-nonsense way. So did Tim, but he was a smidge more diplomatic. But, just a smidge. LOL! Best wishes, Tim, I will miss you being on the cadre.

A special shout out to Melissa Samson of the Kitchener-Waterloo Aquarium Society who won the ACA Show Sanctioning Medallion. On October 27, 2024, Mellissa’s Red Spotted Severum won the Best Cichlid in the show. Congratulations Melissa for a job well done. Or should that be, a fish well raised? Great job!

That’s all for now. Hopefully, I have some news to report next month. Have a great day!

Alan
